Smaller than other canine subspecies, it can measure up to 120 cm in length (including the tail) and averages about 45 kg. Recognized by its thick white fur, short legs, and rounder nose, the polar wolf can withstand temperatures as low as -60 &degC. However, these extreme conditions make mating difficult. The alpha male and female are the only ones allowed to breed within the pack, and after a gestation period of 2 months, only 2 to 3 pups are born.
